December 2008 - Christmas in Harmony
Saturday 13th December 2008, 7.30pm.

At the Emmanuel United Reform Church, Trumpington St., Cambridge.

Cambridge Chord Company and guests presented an evening of popular and seasonal music accompanied with a few laughs to usher in the festive season (click images for full size).

A packed venue enjoyed the songs of Gershwin, Glen Miller and others, alongside some of our more humorous material, including some seasonal favourites and carols.

We were joined by Jazz Vocalist Patrice Taylor who sang a few memorable Christmas tunes from the great American songbook. People drank in the joy of the season as this wonderful American entertainer transported us to the magical wonder of Yuletide with her renditions of her favourite American Christmas songs. Certainly it was a treat not to be missed.

The evening also feature Alison Stephens who is arguably the leading exponent of the classical mandolin in the UK. She was the first graduate of mandolin from Trinity College of Music, London, and was appointed as a teacher upon graduation, a post she still holds. Alison has played across the UK and has toured extensively across the Far and Middle East; Australia, South Africa, across Europe and in the USA. The applause of the packed audience certainly showed why.

During our interval people grooved to the Gypsy Jazz style of Shakey Breaks The Ice. As people helped themselves to some festive cheer (wine and fruit-juice) they were transported to the sidewalk cafes of Paris as they listened to this Guitar, Accordion, Clarinet trio play the French influenced swing jazz favourites we've all come to love and enjoy. Django and Grapelli filled the air - wow, what a treat!

The evening was also blessed by the Arbury Youth Concert Choir who are arguably the best youth choir in all of Cambridgeshire singing some seasonal favourites - including 'Christmas in Waikiki' !

All in all, it was a jam-packed evening with some of the best entertainment to be had in Cambridge this Christmas season. Tickets went like hot cakes and maybe we will need a longer run next time !
